COMMUNITY QUILTS

Community Quilts meets the first and third Tuesday of each month from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Village Shopping Center, 2738 S. Campbell. They invite everyone to join them for all or part of the day or evening. Guild members make the blocks that are used in the quilts via the Block of the Month activity.

              Block of the Month

This committee is responsible for completing the quilts. Community Quilts performs a very important and vital function within our guild. It is comprised of a large group of friendly, energetic and generous group of members who give graciously of their time and talents to provide a much needed service for our community.

In 2009 we gave away 336 quilts. Fourteen of those quilts were given to non-profit organizations to use as fund raisers or raffles. The rest were given to the following organizations, who in turn gave them to those in need in our community and surrounding areas:

Bailey Alternative High School
CASA
Child Advocacy Center
Cox Hospital
Harmony House
Newborns-In-Need
Regional Girls Shelter
Ronald McDonald House
Southwest Center for Independent Living
St. John's Hospital
The Kitchen

The Doll Quilt Program is sponsored by the Night Guild. The Night Guild makes and
donates small "doll" quilts to Crosslines, who distributes them to children at Christmas.

The Guild supports Harmony House, a local battered women's shelter. The Guild furnished a room in their new home. The Guild also makes monthly contributions of money and supplies.

The Youth Education Committee sponsors educational units for children in the history, tradition and art of quilting. These activities are provided for Scouts, 4-H Clubs, schools and other non-profit children's groups. This committee is funded by the Best Choice Label Program.

Guild members help set up the Ozark Empire Fair quilt display each year and sponsor a cash award.

Every January, our day meeting is devoted to making baby quilts for Community Quilts.

Our members were hard at work in January at our "SOUPER SEWIN" meeting!
